Women are driving force behind savings
The number of women who are prepared to save money has increased over the last two years a survey by Legal & General has revealed.
Legal & General's money mood survey found that the number of women saving money has increased five per cent to 64 per cent whereas the number of men saving has decreased from 59 per cent to 56 per cent.
Saving for a rainy day was top of the list of what the nation is saving for, with saving for a holiday, a bill and home improvements also featuring highly.
Mark Gregory, Legal & General executive director of savings, said that the survey revealed that women are now the driving force in maintaining the saving habit in most household and the nation is looking to save rather than spend money.
He added: "The focus of saving appears to be more about meeting short term needs such as paying households bills and more immediate concerns such as saving in case you lose your job. Saving for luxury items such as new clothes or a night out appears further down the list."
