UK 'moving out of recession'
Experts are saying that the UK appears to be moving out of recession much quicker than expected.
Michael Baxter, an economist at Defaqto, made the comments after surveys suggested there could be signs that the UK is starting to improve slightly.
The latest figures from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) shows stronger signals of a possible trough in the economy.
Other barometers for economic stability have also shown positive signs, such as the CIPS/Markit Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for the manufacturing, construction and service sector published in the last couple of weeks.
It showed the slowest contraction in services in the UK for eight months.
The Composite Leading Indicators for the United Kingdom increased by 0.7 point in April 2009 but was 4.2 points lower than a year ago
Mr Baxter believes that these are all encouraging signs commenting: "It is pretty clear from the evidence that emerged recently that we do seem to be lifting out of recession."
However, he does add a cautionary note: "Whether or not that continues to be the case, whether or not we are going to go back into recession at a later date remains to be seen."
