Third of UK workers failing to save any wages
Research shows that 32 per cent of UK workers are not saving any of their wages.
The figures from Alliance & Leicester reveal British workers are currently saving an average of £120 each month, down £43 on the average amount saved during the first quarter of 2009.
Statistics reveal a significant drop in the amount being saved compared to last year, with one in five Britons admitting they are now saving less than they were 12 months ago.
Habitually, savings differ across the country with Londoners saving the most with £155, while Midlanders save £89 a month on average.
Gillian Almond, current accounts manager for Alliance & Leicester, said: "It is easy to kick-start a savings habit by setting aside an amount of money each month from your wages to build up a nest egg for the future."
The news comes a woman in Israel's daughter threw out a mattress with her £600,000 life savings in it.
