Summer break 'may strain finances' of some UK families

The summer holidays might prove a difficult time financially for some UK families, it is suggested, which may interest those who are already having to think about applying for products like personal loans.

Despite the fact that many of the country's residents have recently been looking to reduce their outgoings, Darren Cook, the Moneyfacts.co.uk spokesperson, feels that family expenses could be stretched in the coming weeks.

"Summer school holidays, after Christmas, must be the most expensive time of the year for families and annoyingly most attractions take the opportunity to charge a premium entrance fee," Mr Cook said.

Good value is something that the expert feels families should aim to focus on when deciding on tourist locations to visit, he continued.

Moneysupermarket Vouchers research has shown that the 2010 school summer holiday period could see families spend a combined £5.6 billion on finding ways to entertain their young ones.
