Personal finances 'can affect an adult's health'

Concerns over personal finance issues are impacting on the health of consumers, new research has suggested.

The study by Axa revealed that nearly nine out of ten adults admit to suffering both physical and psychological problems due to their concerns over money issues including debt.

Debt repayments, bills and the high cost of living were found to be major factors of stress, while only 36 per cent of people said they had taken action to deal with any problems.

Eugene Farrell, head of psychological health and wellbeing at Axa, said many seem to have their "heads in the sand" about money issues.

He added: "Our research shows that a quarter of people do nothing to deal with the cause of their financial worries while others turn to potentially unhealthy pursuits for consolation."

Maria Papadopoulou of Helium.com recently suggested that consumers looking to pay back what they owe to many people should consider debt consolidation.
