ID fraud: Check your personal information daily "to avoid becoming a victim"...

Recent losses of data by government departments and private companies suggest that consumers should be more vigilant than ever when it comes to identity theft, Equifax has said.

Neil Munroe, external affairs director at Equifax, said: "It seems that with all the data breaches and lost data files reported over the last few months, it almost needs to be de facto to monitor your personal information on a daily basis."

Only that way you can ensure that you do not become a victim of ID fraud, explained Mr Munroe.

He expressed the opinion that the weakest link when it comes to data breaches is usually human error and warned consumers that ID theft can affect their credit record and make it difficult for them to get credit in the future even if they are protected against financial loss in the short term.

And they can waste "hundreds of hours" trying to sort out the accounts that have been affected.

Equifax is a global service provider of information solutions to businesses with 4,600 employees in 13 countries.
