House prices 'fell slightly in June'

The value of property in the UK fell slightly during June, according to new figures from Halifax.

Consumers seeking homeowner loans may be interested in the research, which revealed that house prices dropped by 0.6 per cent in the month, although they remained 6.3 per cent higher than 12 months ago.

The average price of a home in the UK now stands at £166,203, with the increase in the number of available properties believed to be behind the reduction in upward pressure on house prices.

Martin Ellis, housing economist at Halifax, added: "Prices in the April to June quarter were largely unchanged compared with the first three months of the year.

"This continued the slowdown in house price growth since the beginning of the year following the moderate recovery in prices during much of 2009."

Nationwide recently suggested that UK property prices rose by 0.1 per cent during June, with the average value of homes standing at £170,111.
