House price growth slows...

House prices across the UK are increasing at a slower rate than in previous months, new findings have revealed.

According to the latest Halifax House Price Index, house prices have increased by 0.4 per cent over the last month, with an annual change of 11.4 per cent.

The average house price in the UK now stands at £199,770, while the company expects inflation to ease over the rest of the year as a number of factors, such as rising food prices, have an effect on the housing market.

Commenting on the latest results, chief economist at Halifax Martin Ellis said: "The downward trend in house price growth is expected to continue over the remainder of 2007 … sound economic fundamentals, high levels of employment and a shortage in the number of properties available for sale will, however, continue to support house prices."

The survey also found that there were a total of 115,000 mortgage approvals in July.

Meanwhile, a study by Wolseley UK has found that 63 per cent of adults in the UK would pay more for an energy efficient home.
