Growing number of Brits 'seeking debt advice'

An increasing number of consumers in the UK are seeking advice on their debt problems, new figures have revealed.

In news which may interest those seeking debt consolidation loans, the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) research has highlighted that its branches are dealing with 9,500 new debt problems every day.

The study also found that debt problems increased 24 per cent from October 1st to December 31st 2009, with steep rises seen in concerns over energy, water and phone bills.

David Harker, chief executive of the CAB, said that while the UK may be out of recession, people are still feeling the effects.

"Even more people are now worried about the further pressures on their household budgets from rising prices and exceptionally high winter fuel bills," he explained.

Recent research published by Unbiased.co.uk revealed that levels of personal debt have remained constant in the UK over the past 12 months, despite banks placing restrictions on their lending criteria.
