Going green "can save you money"...

Homeowners could save up to £400 a year on household bills by going green, it has been suggested, thus allocating more money into repaying mortgages, personal loans and credit card bills.

Nigel Berman, founder of Nigel's Eco Store, said that making small lifestyle changes can help homeowners manage their finances better by reducing their energy bills while doing their bit for the environment.

"I think that money-saving and energy-saving kind of go hand in hand", he asserted.

Mr Berman noted that some of the so-called green products may look like they are more expensive, but in the end they may save consumers money.

Energy-saving bulbs, for example, "can cost up to £15 each, but over their life they might save you £40 including the cost of the bulb."

And he concluded that part of the eco-friendly attitude in life is about "looking after the things that you've got".

Nigel's Eco Store, which sells environmentally-friendly products, was set up in 2005 in order to "do something positive and make a difference".
