Expert: Checking statements may stop fraud early...

People should check their bank and credit card statements thoroughly in order to detect fraud early, an expert has said.

Danny Harrison from the life assistance company CPP claimed that some people are afraid to check their statements, for instance if they have just come back from a holiday or have spent some money in the sales, because they do not want to know how much they have spent.

"But it is really important that people do check their statements because this is where you will be able to see the small amount that comes out of your bank account which is how fraud starts," he noted, adding that more significant amounts will be drawn later.

Research from CPP has revealed that 20 per cent of people do not check their bank and credit card statements thoroughly.

London is the worst location for credit and debit card fraud as well as credit and debit card theft, according to the same research, with 28 per cent of people surveyed saying they have been victims of card fraud and 20 per cent saying that they have had their cards stolen.
