Brits embrace online banking

The number of Britons embracing the concept of online banking has grown, new figures have revealed.

According to research from the UK Payments Administration, 22 million adults used internet banking to manage their main current account during the first half of last year.

The statistic means that, for the first time ever, over 50 per cent of regular internet users are now banking online.

It was revealed that the most popular tasks for online banking include checking account balances and statements.

Katy Worobec, head of fraud control at the organisation, said: "Online and phone banking has totally changed the way we manage our accounts, enabling us to keep a much closer eye on our finances outside of traditional banking hours."

She added that many people can often avoid becoming victims of fraud by following common sense steps.

The release of the findings has come after research by Nationwide revealed that just 45 per cent of people in the UK save regularly.
