Bank of England: Business lending up in third quarter...

Business lending increased in the third quarter for both other financial corporations (OFCs) and nonfinancial corporations (NFCs), according to figures released today by the Bank of England.

Lending to OFCs rose by £41.8 billion in the quarter, including £27.7 billion to other financial intermediaries and £11.2 billion in business loans for fund management activities.

In terms of lending to NFCs, total loans for the third quarter increased by £28.9 billionm with £11.1 billion of funds going to businesses involved in various aspects of real estate, including renting, selling and purchasing.

Some £4.2 billion in business loans were granted to NFCs for the purposes of legal, consultancy, accountancy and other activities.

In the same quarter, OFC deposits grew by £20.3 billion, while NFC deposits fell by £4.4 billion.

According to statistics published in October by the British Bankers' Association, lending to real estate companies in September increased by £1.5 billion, while lending to storage, transport and communication businesses fell by £0.5 billion.
